Flash It turns a Google Sheets or Excel spreadsheet into a private, browser-based flashcard deck — study any subject, no login, no account, and nothing ever typed directly into WebToolChest.
How the Save System Works
There's only ever one file involved — it just passes through two steps:
- Step 1 — Get the Template. Download the Flash It template (.xlsx) from the tool page.
- Step 2 — Fill it in. Open that file in Google Sheets or Excel and add your cards to the Front / Back / Category / Difficulty / Notes columns.
- Step 3 — Save it. Export or save that same file as .xlsx or .csv. Don't create a new file — just save your changes to the one you downloaded.
- Upload that saved file back into Flash It. It reads the spreadsheet in your browser and builds your study deck instantly.
Typical Workflow
- Download the template and fill it in with your material.
- Save it as .xlsx or .csv, then upload it back into Flash It.
- Press Flash It to shuffle the deck and start studying.
- Flip each card, then mark it Got It or Missed It.
- When the deck ends, a score screen sums up how you did and suggests a next step.
The Score Screen
Finishing a deck brings up a short summary: how many cards you studied, how many you got right, and a message that matches how the session went — anything from a perfect-deck callout to an encouraging nudge to run it again. From there you can start the same deck over, jump straight into reviewing just the cards you missed (Cygnus Connect), or close the screen and keep browsing.
Template Columns
Front and Back are required — every card needs both. Category is optional and lets you filter the deck by chapter, topic, or unit while studying. Difficulty (1–3) is optional and feeds Cygnus Connect's missed-card weighting. Notes is optional and shows up after you flip a card — handy for a mnemonic or short explanation. Rows missing a Front or Back are skipped automatically on import.
Free vs. Cygnus Connect
Free keeps one deck at a time — uploading a new sheet replaces whatever was loaded before — plus full study and scoring, and a study-sheet download capped at 10 cards. Cygnus Connect unlocks multiple named deck slots you can switch between without re-uploading, a Missed Only review mode that remembers what you've missed across visits, and a full-deck study-sheet download.
Privacy
Your spreadsheet is read entirely inside your browser — Flash It never uploads it to a server. The file itself lives wherever you saved it, in your own Google Drive or on your own device, so it's already backed up and already yours.
Current Status
Flash It is a first build. Future updates may add more deck-slot capacity, printable answer keys, and additional import formats.
